The Shenyang J-15 (another designation: Jian J-15) is a modern on-board fighter, with a metal-composite structure in the spine-wing configuration, made in China. The drive is provided by two Woshan WS-10H engines. The first flight of this machine took place in 2009. Serial production began shortly after, and by December 2016, approximately 20 aircraft of this type had been produced. The on-board armament consists of a single 30mm GSh-30-1 cannon.
The necessity to create in-flight fighters in the PRC arose with the increase in the country's naval ambitions, as well as the purchase and thorough renovation of the unfinished Russian aircraft carrier Varyag, Admiral Kuznetsov type. The design of the Shenyang J-15 aircraft was to a large extent based on the Su-27SK and Su-33 machines, and especially on the domestic production aircraft - Shenyang J-11. The new plane - in relation to the J-11 - differs mainly in the significantly reinforced structure, reinforced landing gear, shortened tail beam and the installation of the landing hook on the carrier. The J-15 has revised avionics and additional lifting surfaces in the front of the fuselage. The machine entered service in 2013 or 2014.
