The Porsche 944 is a German sports passenger car that was first presented to the public in 1982. Its serial production lasted from 1982 to 1991 and was concentrated in the city of Neckarsulm in Germany (West Germany). Approximately 163,000 cars of this model were built in its course.

The 944 was designed and put into production to replace, and later practice proved, to complement Porsche's 924 commercial lineup. In essence, the new car, designed by Harm Lagaay as chief designer, was an extension and modification of its predecessor. It is true that the styling and design were improved, but the exterior of the Porsche 944 was similar to the 924 model - it still had, for example, retractable headlights. It also had an almost identical steering, braking and undercarriage. The most important change, however, took place under the hood, as the drive was made of much more powerful engines with a capacity of 2.5 to 2.9 liters and power from 163 to 211 KM, which, however, still did not generate very good performance. To remedy this, a version of the 944 Turbo entered production in 1985 with a 220 HP turbocharged engine and significantly improved aerodynamics. The Porsche 944 was quite successful on the market and was replaced in the company's offer only before the 968 and Boxster models.
